The Heart of a Mother

🪻 Loving deeply while learning to surrender.

📖Scripture

Isaiah 66:13
“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you…”

✨Devotional Thought

The hardest part about being a mother is not giving birth—it is surrender.

There comes a moment when you realize your little ones are no longer little. You must release them into the world, trusting that what you have poured into them will carry them. For their growth and well-being, you have to allow them to leave the nest, even when they are not fully ready.

Like mother birds, we gently encourage our children one branch at a time. We begin to step back from what we once did for them, allowing them to stretch, to try, and even to struggle. That is the heart of a mother—loving deeply while learning to let go.

Just as we learn to release our children, God lovingly releases us into seasons of growth. His heart mirrors ours—but greater, wiser, and full of perfect love. He comforts us as we comfort them, reminding us that we are not surrendering them to the world alone—we are entrusting them to Him.

I am learning that surrender doesn’t mean I trust the world—it means I trust God with what I cannot control. There is a quiet ache in motherhood when you realize your role is shifting from holding their hand to watching them walk away. Even when we release them, they are never outside of God’s reach.

✍🏽Challenge

This week, practice surrender in one small area. Step back, trust God, and allow your child room to grow.

What is one area where God is asking you to release control as a mother?

🙏🏽Prayer

Lord, teach me how to love without holding too tightly. Help me to trust You with my children, knowing You love them even more than I do. Give me the strength to release, the wisdom to guide, and the peace to rest in Your care. Amen.
