Walking in Liberty

🪻 Living in the freedom Christ has already provided instead of returning to old habits, guilt, shame, or fear.

📖Scripture

John 8:36 (NIV)

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Living in the freedom Christ has already provided instead of returning to old habits, guilt, shame, or fear.

✨Devotional Thought

Freedom is one of the greatest gifts Christ has given us, yet it is also one of the hardest gifts to fully embrace.

Many of us have prayed for healing, forgiveness, and deliverance. We have laid our burdens before God and trusted Him to work. Yet, even after He answers, we sometimes continue living as though we are still imprisoned. We revisit old failures, replay painful memories, and allow guilt, shame, fear, or insecurity to dictate our choices.

It is possible to be free in Christ while still thinking like a prisoner.

The Israelites experienced this struggle after leaving Egypt. God had broken the chains of slavery, parted the Red Sea, and led them toward the Promised Land. Yet they continually longed for what was familiar, even though it had once held them captive. They had been delivered physically, but their minds were still learning what freedom looked like.

Many believers find themselves in the same place today.

Perhaps God has forgiven you, but you still punish yourself for your past.

Perhaps He has healed your heart, but you continue expecting people to hurt you.

Perhaps He has opened a new door, but fear keeps convincing you to stay where you are comfortable.

Jesus did not die merely so we could survive. He died so we could live abundantly.

Walking in liberty is not pretending life is perfect. It is choosing every day to believe God’s truth over your emotions. It means refusing to let yesterday define today. It means replacing shame with grace, fear with faith, and condemnation with confidence in Christ.

Freedom is not simply the absence of chains.

It is the presence of Christ directing every step.

Every act of obedience strengthens your confidence in God’s promises. Every time you choose gratitude instead of regret, forgiveness instead of bitterness, or faith instead of fear, you are walking a little farther away from your old life and deeper into the freedom Jesus purchased for you.

Do not spend your life standing outside the prison door after Jesus has already unlocked it.

Walk forward.

The chains are broken.

The door is open.

The invitation is yours.

✍🏽Challenge

This week, intentionally practice walking in your freedom.

🪻 Identify one area where you still feel bound by guilt, fear, shame, or old habits.

🪻 Read and write down Scriptures that remind you of your freedom in Christ.

🪻 Practice gratitude whenever your mind begins dwelling on past mistakes.

🪻 Take one intentional act of obedience that demonstrates your trust in God.

🪻 End each day thanking Jesus for the freedom you already have through Him.

🙏🏽Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus to set me free. Thank You that my freedom is not based on my performance but on His finished work on the cross. Forgive me for the times I have continued carrying burdens You have already removed.

Renew my mind so I will believe Your truth above my fears, regrets, and insecurities. Give me the courage to leave behind every habit, mindset, and relationship that keeps me from fully walking in the life You have prepared for me.

Teach me to live with confidence, joy, and gratitude. Help me remember that I am no longer defined by my past but by Your grace. Strengthen my faith each day so that my life reflects the freedom You purchased for me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
